Create a ‘Mom Sanctuary’ With Furniture

Do you find yourself wondering what you can do to put the “wow” into the special day when mothers are so deserving of being honored?  It’s just around the corner, (May 8th), and if you’ve been stumped, I’m happy to share a few ideas that will make her eyes sparkle!

Many moms would love to create a special room or escape, even if it’s tucked away inside a hall cubby or in a corner – a place where they could take the time to:  relax, be pampered, participate in a hobby, listen to music, or just catch up on the phone with a friend.  All it takes is the right piece to help make it happen!  As an interior designer, I know it’s important to source for items which are not only beautiful, but can be worked into a room, serving multiple purposes.

The perfect solutions can be found in Hooker Furniture’s Mélange collection – created by two women, Cindy Hall and Erica Wingo, with the idea to inspire the owners with self-discovery and expression.  Cindy and Erica steered away from the trendy and sought the timeless. “We wanted to offer versatile and multifaceted designs that easily transcend from one life stage to the next, from home to home and from generation to generation,” Erica said.  These are two smart women!

I’ll share with you my top five Mélange picks for Mom, with a few thoughts of how to merge them into her little sanctuary.  Think of how much pleasure she’ll receive from using these everyday! If you are a mom, consider these for your own sanctuary.

1.     The Chelsea Accent Arm Chair – This little jewel of a chair is just the right size to pull up to a desk, a vanity, or to place in a corner with a small stand while enjoying a garden view with a favorite cup of tea.  If Mom is lucky enough to have a large walk-in closet, it can be transformed with this chair and a floor length mirror, into an elegant dressing room.

2.     The Flowered Drum Table – A great accompaniment to the Chelsea Chair, this little side piece can slide into small spaces, while providing a functional surface and adds a sculptural accent.  In honor of Mother’s Day, Hooker Furniture is sponsoring a giveaway contest right now for the flowered drum table. 3.     The Vintage Stamp Chest – Storage is always a luxury and what a beautiful way to conceal works-in-progress behind the easy touch door.  Knitting, crafting or scrapbooking supplies can be set in trays to rest on the hidden shelves.

4.     Glamour Floor Mirror – If you really want to dazzle Mom, this fabulous mirror with hidden storage, will hold all of the jewelry she’s collected, over the years.  If there is over 48” of wall space, a personal treasure chest can be hers!

5.     Raised Lattice Front Chest – This is a personal favorite!  A true classic, in design, this type of chest can move from the entry, to the bedroom, and to the family room.  There’s always room for storage, especially of the portable type.  Fabulously functional and tech gadgets can be well-organized!

I just purchased a beautiful console for my family room and in reading about furniture care it mentioned the types of furniture care and what products to avoid. However, you recommended polishes that contain certain ingredients altho you did not mention any particular brands. Can you please help? I plan on keeping the console for a very long time and want to keep it in the best condition.

Thank you for very much for your attention to my concern.
