In Celebration of Creativity: Pinnacle Furniture Awards

When you create something that comes from deep inside of you, that’s a precious thing. From the time we labored over that coloring book masterpiece as a child and received delighted praise from a parent, our spirits find nourishment when we believe that our creativity has somehow hit the mark.

Indeed, affirmation is a tonic to the creative soul.

That’s why we are so high on the Pinnacle Design Awards, awarded annually by the American Society of Furniture Designers to recognize achievement in furniture design and promote design excellence and originality.

Cindy Hall, Erica Wingo win 2nd Pinnacle

For the second year in a row, two very creative women from the merchandising team of Hooker Furniture have won a Pinnacle Design Award, which they received at the just-concluded Fall High Point Market. The winning piece, in the category of occasional storage, was the Le Papillion chest, a gracefully-shaped petite chest covered in a raffia textured finish and a botanist butterfly motif.

When Erica and Cindy were announced as the winners at the Pinnacle Awards Ceremony at High Point Market, “I was literally speechless,” said Cindy, explaining that she could not remember another time in her life when she simply could not find the words for her depth of emotion. This kind of profound response is certainly understandable. Especially when the creativity that came from deep within resulted in a piece of furniture with the capacity to help transform a house into a home with its beauty and unique charm.

In presenting the award, the judges said that Le Papillion “is an artistic and unique piece with a complex combination of materials that pairs a textural burlap finish with decorative painting. The chest has great proportion of scale to create a fun, cute gem that is pleasing to the eye.”

“Le Papillion has an organic feel,” said Erica, when reflecting on what she likes most about the piece. “There’s an unexpected combination of the Raffia material on a graceful silhouette. The  hand painted script, floral and butterfly motifs are trend-forward.”

Erica added that she enjoyed collaborating on the design of Le Papillion with Cindy. “Two minds are better than one. It is really a dynamic process as we each bring our own ideas and perspective.”

In addition to winning for La Papillion, Hooker Furniture also won a Pinnacle in the youth furniture category for the Abby Collection designed by Taylor West.

The judges noted, “Hooker Furniture presents a versatile touch of feminine flavor in the youth category that also translates into a broader appeal that is suitable for the second bedroom. The Abby Collection translates good design from a younger to older child. The padded headboard gives the group a special glamour.”
