From ceiling to floor, 3 home brands to love

For those of us who love to shop, the world’s our oyster as never before.  Mall crawls, catalogs, the internet!  Millions of home furnishings and eclectic furniture items are there for the picking.  But how to pick, that’s the question.  The answer?  Only buy décor and furniture that’s stylish, quality-made, fairly priced and full of wow.  From ceiling to floor, here are three online brands full of wow that serve up essentials every home needs.

Starting with the ceiling (lighting) and moving to seating (chairs) and finally the floor (rugs and tiles), here’s my picks of three brands that you can shop for online effortlessly with your morning coffee or at night on the couch.  Any wonder my heart’s a-flutter?  Check these websites out and yours will be, too.

•The Light Fantastic

The Caboche chandelier (shown above) is one of over 5,000 modern light fixtures from around the world available on YLighting.com.  This online retailer has changed the way we mere mortals shop for lighting because they carry designer names like Artemide, Flos, Fontana Arte and Louis Poulsen which used to only be available to the trade.  Another thing to love?  They pack and deliver to your door which beats trying to get these breakable beauties home without stubbing your toe and going crash, boom in the mall parking lot.

Zettel’z 5 chandelier by Ingo Maurer is indeed enlightening. This whimsical light gives the appearance of a posh paper mobile with scribbled notes from some incurable romantic’s desk that gently flutter in the breeze as light shines through them.

•Stylish Seats

Shophomeware.com is a new online-only furniture company out to “change the way America buys and lives with furniture.”  Based on the 16 cool, comfy chairs they’ve launched with, I predict it won’t be long before we’ll all be saying, “Mission accomplished.”  These semi-custom chairs (You pick from an assortment of fashion fabrics) arrive at your doorstep in 1-2 weeks, then only take about five minutes to assemble (the proof’s in their online videos). The shapes, fabrics, patterns and hues are terrific; the chairs are smartly sized and there are mix-and-match pillows available, too.

A wing chair that takes creative flight, the Rizzo chair is compact, but roomy, with a sexy concave back and sloping, lightly clipped wings.  It’s dressed in a graphic wood-grain pattern that’s fabulously faux bois–a unique (but super stylish) look for an upholstered chair.

The Hartley chair is a hip chair that thinks outside the box with its Missoni-inspired zigzag that’s adventurous, surprising and forever fashionable.

•Totally Floored

FLOR.com releases the inner designer in us all with its vast array of 19.7-inch carpet tile squares that can be fashioned into custom rugs, runners or wall-to-wall designs of any shape or size for a fraction of the price. They also have online installation videos so newbies can catch on fast.

Carpet tile is a particularly good pick for places where conventionally-sized rugs won’t work like this galley kitchen. The random stripe pattern of Parallel Reality carpet tiles make it easy to mix things up; and look how the stripes trick the eye into thinking this small space goes on forever.
