From ‘nice’ to ‘awesome’ through presentation

How to go from nice to delightful? It’s all in presentation.

Giving and receiving gifts is one of the best experiences we can have. When I think of the most memorable gifts I’ve received, the presentation  of those gifts often stood out as much as the gift itself.

Being handed a gift is fine, but who wouldn’t rather receive a gift wrapped in beautiful paper in a box topped with a lovely bow and lacy ribbon, and then lovingly layered in tissue paper?

Conyers, Ga. retailer Fabrics & Furnishings understands very well the concept of adding delight through presentation. The home furnishings, decorative accessories, rug and fabrics retailer recently had the opportunity to award the Turquoise Crackle Chest to the second prize winner in our recent Melange Sweepstakes. They invited the winner, Krys, into the store to receive her prize. When Krys walked in, she didn’t just see a chest sitting there beside a brown box—she feasted her eyes on the chest completely accessorized with a lamp, wall art, decorative accessories and a dramatic orchid arrangement.

“We were so excited for her, and she was so thrilled to win, so we wanted her to feel good about coming into our store,” said Lisa Ward, owner-manager of Fabrics & Furnishings. “We wanted to add to her excitement by accessorizing the piece with a lamp and décor.”

The thoughtful gesture of making the presentation special definitely had the desired results. Said winner Krys, “My first reaction when I saw the turquoise chest was, ‘Did I really just win this? I couldn’t take my eyes off of it! It is a stunning statement piece.”

Krys went on to say that “the people of Fabrics & Furnishings were absolutely phenomenal. My trip there was so worth it because I got to see their beautiful store. They were so warm and welcoming, and it was just a wonderful experience.”

Owner Lisa noted that “even the other customers in the store at the time got excited that we had a winner and they all felt they were a part of it.”

Through presentation and hospitality, Fabrics & Furnishings transformed a good experience to a memorable one. These merchants are quite skillful at the art of presentation, as you can see from these vignettes in their store. Which one is your favorite?:
