It’s playoff season-are you prepared?  You’re making your famous bean dip and 50 “pigs in a blanket,”  but what will really impress your friends is your TV viewing room! Whether you watch the game in your living room, den , or man cave on your home entertainment center furniture, make sure you follow these easy tips to ensure the best possible football viewing experience!

Choose the right size

Folks, size really does matter in this scenario.  Buy a TV too large and you’ll overpower the room.  Buy a TV too small and your guests will strain to see the action.  First, determine roughly how far away you will be sitting from the screen.  Then, refer to the handy chart below to determine the minimum and maximum size TV appropriate for your space.

If you live in a house built before 2000, chances are you have a small room near the front of the house originally designated as a formal living room or sitting room.

As most lifestyles have become more casual and oriented around technology, the formal living room has become a thing of the past for many. So how can you reinvent that space to create a room more relevant to how you live?

Gayle Cook of Waller, Texas, the winner of our Moccato functional living room table in the recent Hooker Furniture contest, has happily reinvented her former sitting room into a multipurpose room that she describes as “my favorite room of the house.”

“I find the room very inviting and functional,” Gayle said. “In the room I have my computer and exercise equipment, watch TV and entertain comfortably, all in a cozy, small [...]

Can high-tech and high-taste really co-exist in home office furniture?

After a long “attraction” from afar, we think these “ opposites” have finally come together in a marriage of form and function in our Mélange home office collection. Four Mélange home office furniture desks and a lateral file are set for introduction at the spring 2011 High Point Market. This high-tech/high-taste truce also features three new TV consoles.

Leading the way is a glamorous (we’re talking Hollywood) fluted kidney-shaped desk with a soft silver metallic finish. The drawers are lined with exquisite silver floral wallpaper, and there’s even a deep purse drawer along with a utility file drawer.

The idea of Mélange Home Office is to bring designer looks, trend-forward style and feminine appeal to this functional category. Since the Mélange home office collection is designed by two young women, they know how to [...]

With the winter weather we’ve had throughout the country in the last month, most of us have spent a lot more time indoors. That has made me more aware than ever that electronics, video games, DVDs and other high tech toys can take over our home if we’re not careful.  That’s why we need to turn to home entertainment center furniture for clever display and storage solutions.
Continuing from my most recent blog on taming high-tech headaches, here are some other ideas for fun but organized home entertainment.

Menlo Park Entertainment Console and Piers

Look up!

Some of the best advice for adding storage solutions is to look UP! Vertical space is often under-utilized in the home, and a home theater wall unit is one of the best ways to use it. Buy furniture that makes full use of the height in your room — [...]

Do you feel like your electronics, video games, CDs, DVDs, and other tech toys are taking over your home? The heap of various systems, power cords, controllers, disks and the peripherals that come with them can turn your big screen entertainment center  into an unsightly mess. Certainly, the need for attractive and versatile storage options has never been greater. These options are available now until January 31 during Hooker Furniture’s national Home Entertainment Furniture Sale. With some of the clever display and storage solutions in Hooker’s line of TV consoles, entertainment centers and wall units, you can streamline your home entertainment center furniture and turn your entertainment chaos into a manageable mix.

To display or hide away?

Since the rise of large flat-panel televisions, many people like to display their TVs out in the open, but want to keep all the other equipment tucked out [...]

Attending football games and tailgate parties is a rite of the season. Many of us are miles away from the stadium–but we still can get into the spirit of the game. With our flat screen, high-definition TVs, we don’t have to miss out on the fun, food, and excitement. Just take a seat on the 50-yard line in front of the entertainment center in your family room. Go Team and have a great time with these winning plays:

1. Be the quarterback: Score big with your family and friends by making them part of the party team. If you’re inviting friends, invitations can be made to look like admission tickets. For make-ahead refreshments, involve the kids and their pals. While chopping and arranging munchies, play a CD of the team’s marching band to get everyone in the mood. Consider serving hot dogs [...]

Daniel Vice of Bethesda, Md., Leigh Nichols of Lexington, S.C. and Carole Grover of Baton Rouge, La. are the winners in our recent Wii giveaway contest. The contest was part of our National Home Entertainment-Gaming Furniture Sale that ended earlier this month.

In an effort to design gaming furniture  just for you, we asked each participant in the contest to email us about the kinds of styles, materials, storage, finishes and functions you are looking for in gaming furniture.

Daniel’s suggestion was to offer gaming consoles in certified sustainable woods. “We have young kids, and they have been learning about the importance of protecting the environment. We look for furniture made with sustainable woods with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) seal that have been harvested in a way that protects the forests and the animals that live there.”

The most frequent [...]

Nintendo sold its 30 millionth Wii console in the U.S. earlier this month. The popular motion-sensing game hit 30 million units in just 45 months, making it the fastest-selling console in video game history.

To address the exploding gaming market, Hooker now offers over a dozen options in gaming furniture  in a variety of styles, finishes and sizes. Our goal is to enhance your experience of gaming by helping to organize and streamline your systems and integrate gaming with a complete home theater experience.

While our gaming furniture  is loaded with function like drop-down drawers with outlets and wire management for storing gaming systems, controllers and media, gaming consoles are more stylish than they used to be. They’re so stylish that they’re moving out of the recreation room and kid’s bedroom to family rooms. The trend of gaming consoles moving front and center [...]

When J. Clyde Hooker, the beloved and respected retired leader of Hooker Furniture, died last month, he left behind numerous trophies, awards and honors. They ranged from a Bronze Star in World War II to The Pillar of the Industry Award to a place in the Furniture Hall of Fame to a key to the City of Martinsville, Va. Other tangible reminders of Clyde’s contributions include new or expanded buildings in Martinsville to benefit the community, buildings like the YMCA and the hospital and the SPCA and Piedmont Arts Assn. offices. Too many to count are the young people who are now contributing to society because they were educated through a scholarship Clyde helped establish through the Hooker Educational Foundation, VMI or High Point University.

In addition to these tangible contributions, Clyde’s intangible legacy is just as great. Clyde’s [...]
