When I think back on my childhood, I have fond memories of getting ready to go back to school each year. You’d think that the end of summer and return to homework would be more of a letdown, but it really wasn’t. By August I was usually getting bored and missing my friends anyway. Plus, going back to school brought the ultimate adventure:back-to-school shopping!
Each year my mom would take us shopping for new “school clothes” and I would spend countless hours assembling outfits and choosing what to wear the first week. Shopping for school supplies was almost just as fun. Notebooks, folders, pens and the perfect backpack—to this day, I can still lose track of time in an office supply store.
Back to school also meant a new schedule, bedtime and routine. I remember doing my homework at the kitchen table for many years before my parents bought me my own student desk for my room. It wasn’t fancy, but boy did I feel grown up with a desk of my own. Looking at today’s smart youth furnishings like the Opus Designs collection by Hooker Furniture, I know exactly what desk I would have chosen. The Lily desk has my name written all over it. I love color and personalization, and it has both. Its removable color accent panels make it easy to create a girl’s dream bedroom.
Oh how I wish the Lily desk was around when I was younger. I adore the customizable color panels on the desk, dresser and bed.
Now for boys, I like the look of Treverton. The combination of a dark merlot finish and gun-metal pewter hardware is masculine and stylish. I love the Entertainment Chesser, and the fact that it has media-friendly options for hiding gaming systems and managing cords is just smart. The designer that came up with the Treverton “Chesser” is brilliant. It does the work of two pieces, which is great for space-challenged bedrooms.
As for back-to-school furniture adventures, what could be more fun than a chance to win free furniture? Right now Hooker Furniture is giving away a swivel chest from its Abby collection.
It’s a great multi-functional storage piece—just the thing to store jewelry and accessories on the hooks and shelves, and to post notes and photos on the built-in fabric memo board. All you have to do to enter is re-pin any of Hooker’s back-to-school ideas from its Back-to-school Pinterest board or share your own back-to-school ideas on their Facebook page. Check out this link for all the details of how to enter.
So while I’m sad to see summer coming to a close, I know there are some new adventures—hopefully in furniture and decorating—waiting for mejust around the corner.
