Or why not think about a darling little living room accent table to put chair side for eggnog and cookies–maybe even for Santa on Christmas Eve? Here are some suggestions for your house present.

For most of us, formal sit-down dinners are rare these days… making Thanksgiving dinner even more special. There’s something about coming together around our table that warms both heart and home and brings us closer to each other.

What would add more warmth to this special family time than being surrounded by the perfect dining room furniture? Especially furniture that would serve as a beautiful backdrop for the holidays, but be casual enough to accommodate our lifestyle the rest of the year.

Legends Dining Table

With gently antiqued edges and a lightly distressed wood top that blends four different wood species into the plank-top veneer, the Legends dining room table does just that. This leaf-free table is rich in character (you may be tempted to skip the tablecloth!) and at a generous 84” in length, it easily fits 8 people without having to take [...]

Thanksgiving, our most traditional holiday, is being celebrated in old ways and new. Some of us wouldn’t change a thing, such as the way mom cooked and served. And some want to add a new tradition or even make some exciting departures. You might be having your own discussion as to whether you should brine the turkey from that new recipe you just found, or roast it long and lovingly in the oven with cornbread, sausage, and apple stuffing as in years past. In either case, here are some ways to enjoy this holiday around the dining room table while making everyone feel at home:

Even the most seasoned of hosts can experience heart flutters when several holidays seem to merge into one extended party.  It’s the time of year where we not only welcome family and friends; we also have the consideration of the many traditions attached to our gatherings.  Adding in for the possibility of overnight guests . . . well, those flutters might turn into full-fledged palpitations!   I’ll share some of my key ingredients for creating a delicious dining room experience for you and your guests.

Layers of texture and candlelight warm the center of my holiday dining table. One of my go-to sources for table settings is “A Passion for Flowers” by Carolyne Roehm

Whether this is your first event or you have the makings of a celebrity event planner, it’s always a great idea to have a checklist of ‘go-to’ sources [...]

I once learned that the word “home” evokes more emotion than any other word in the English language other than the word “love.”

This is definitely the case in my own life, and I believe in the lives of many. The deep meaning of home was articulated beautifully recently by Maxwell Gillingham-Ryan, founder and CEO of Apartment Therapy Media, a network of blogs devoted to helping people make their homes beautiful, organized and healthy. Maxwell’s storytelling talent sparkled as he shared his compelling personal story, his design philosophy and the humble beginnings of Apartment Therapy at the Withit educational breakfast during the fall High Point Market.

Two home champions: Maxwell & me

“Your home is the only place that is all yours,” he said. “It is the only place you can be totally yourself. We are all looking for a place we can feel [...]
