When you think of nailhead trim, you picture a nice detail on a sofa or chair, right? Well get ready to be wowed. Nailhead trim just jumped from upholstery to wood furniture, and it’s making a big statement in style.
At the High Point Furniture Premarket last month, I got a sneak peek at the freshest furniture introductions about to hit home fashion, and was excited to see a stunning new detail: nailhead trim used on chests, buffets and consoles.
The unexpected application of nailhead trim on chests, tables, consoles and the like is a creative, inventive addition that really dresses up wood pieces. This detail can set a style tone ranging from Old World sophisticated to modern glam to chic and hip.
As if the new red crocodile leather console table in Hooker Furniture’s Mélange line pictured above wasn’t gorgeous enough, it also features nailhead trim that accentuates its bold curves.
While nailhead trim provides a lovely finishing touch to upholstery pieces, it takes wood pieces to a new level of finery. It attracts your eye and draws your focus around a piece, showcasing every curve, corner and leg on the silhouette.
This amazing chest being introduced in Hooker’s accent line is covered in a spa green colored leather and uses nailhead trim to create an artful embroidery-inspired pattern.
The close-up of this chest shows how silver-toned nailhead trim is used to create a unique, raised pattern that is tactile and dimensional.
This market, Hooker Furniture is introducing a new dining furniture and living room accent furniture collection called Alicante. Alicante is a rustic elegant Spanish collection named after one of the fastest-growing cities in Spain, an ancient city situated along the Mediterranean Sea dotted with castles and filled with old world charm. In mahogany solids and veneers with marquetry, veneer inlay and elaborate decorative metal accents on selected pieces, Alicante is a grandly-scaled, high-drama group that is accentuated perfectly with nailhead trim on pieces like this buffet.
The Alicante buffet’s rich mahogany finish is complemented by the varying sizes of nailhead trim that adorn its edges.
The nailhead trim adds a contemporary, and again—unexpected– detail to the traditional silhouette of the Alicante Buffet.
On the softer side of home furnishings like sofas and chairs, nailhead trim is a longtime favorite. But check out how these modern silhouettes are using it in new ways.
For example, oversized nailhead trim is used on the Sam Moore Banner Ottoman and has become an integrated design element that outlines its distinctive shape.
There’s nothing that can tie old and new together better than nailhead trim, as shown on the lovely Bonham Chair from Sam Moore. Its classic silhouette and updated legs are united perfectly with the traditional influence of this trim.
You’ve got to love the touch of glam and sparkle that comes from the nailhead trim on the edge of this leather settee from Bradington-Young.
