Thankful to be: One company united in faith

In this season of thanksgiving, the administrative office of Hooker Furniture celebrated something really special this past week at our Martinsville, Virginia headquarters.

With very thankful hearts, a few dozen of our employees gathered for a luncheon to mark the year anniversary of beginning a Wednesday noon prayer group for administrative office employees. Each Wednesday during the last year, Hooker Furniture employees have gathered for 15 minutes to pray for our company, our co-workers and our nation.

During the last several years of unprecedented economic challenges, businesses around the country have struggled to navigate difficult times. At Hooker Furniture, a small group decided to take the approach of humbling ourselves before God and seeking His wisdom, strength and direction through prayer. Our prayer group founder and leader Tre Galloway first sought the approval of the company’s top management before organizing the group. Not only did our management give permission for the prayer group to meet; several management employees also actively participate.

Prayer group gathers to mark first anniversary

There is something that makes one very thankful indeed to see employees of faith gather to pray right in the midst of flip charts, computers and power point projectors.

This transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary in a sacred way.

We are especially thankful to prayer group leader Tre Galloway who each Wednesday shares words of inspiration and encouragement that strengthen our individual and collective faith, challenging us as employees to “work with all our might, as though working for God’s glory.” This brings us together and unites us in a way that goes far beyond ordinary teamwork. “Through these gatherings, our small group recognizes God as vital to our company’s success and longevity,” Galloway said.

After the luncheon, this special Scripture cake was served as a noted tribute to the group’s year together in prayer. One of our co-workers holds this cake marked with the passage of Matthew 18:19-20, “When two or three gather together in my name, there I am with them.”
