Finding your inspiration is the perfect way to start any decorating project. The Lana Upholstered Bed from Hooker’s Mélange Collection inspires me and has me dreaming of redoing my master bedroom. Whether you’re a designer or a DIYer, you’ll likely agree that inspiration is the starting point of any successful project. Every great room design, redesign or remodel starts with inspiration. It can be a color, a piece of furniture or a whole room that inspires you—all it takes is a connection and the next thing you know you’ve lost track of time as you dream and plan.
I think finding something you love is the best way to start any decorating project. So where do you go for inspiration?
I look everywhere for inspiration. Home magazines (and their websites) have always been a favorite source—particularly Southern Living, Coastal Living, Elle Décor, Traditional Home and Better Homes & Gardens.
While most of today’s home magazines have websites full of room photos, there’s something relaxing about flipping through a magazine—whether you’re out on the porch or in the tub—that makes finding inspiration even more enjoyable.
I’m also inspired by nature. Sometimes a texture or pattern will inspire me, other times it’s a color or a feeling I’m trying to create. I love the nature-inspired color palettes available on Pinterest and have started my own board just for them.
I don’t know if it’s the color, shape or texture of the shells in this image that I find so appealing, but I hope to use this inspired palette in my master bathroom renovation.
Some of the most popular online tools today—Pinterest and Olioboard–help foster design stimulation. With these wonderful applications, you don’t even need to go looking for inspiration; it comes right to you.
I created this inspiration board in Olioboard around one of my favorite accent pieces: the Turquoise Crackle Chest from Hooker’s Mélange Collection. It’s paired with two caned chairs from Sam Moore, as well as a Rattan Accent Table and the Brantley Tufted Ottoman —both from Hooker.
Color is one of my primary sources of inspiration. The luscious shade of blue in Hooker’s Turquoise Crackle Chest just draws me in and challenges me to create a room worthy of its presence. In fact, I think that’s one of the reasons I find the entire Mélange Collection so appealing and inspiring—the collection embraces color, and the colors are amazing. From soft and subtle to vivid and bold, these are furnishings that make an impact.
Red is a tricky color—if it’s not just the right hue it can look dated or juvenile. The Caliente Chest from Hooker’s Melange Collection is the perfect shade of red to add drama and personality to a space.
Are you looking for drama and personality in your own home? If so, take the opportunity to enter Hooker Furniture’s National Mélange Sweepstakes. From interior design to graphic design, apparel design, and landscape design—inspiration is where the best designs start. Inspiration is the natural beginning to the creative process. And creativity and inspiration go together like chocolate and peanut butter, or chocolate and cake, or chocolate and strawberries, or chocolate and…
