You can skip the holiday boutiques and bazaars this year, unless you want to go just for fun. If you’re looking for the perfect hostess gift or want something handmade for someone special—try making your own wineglass charms. It’s unique, inexpensive and simple (even for the glue gun-challenged.) Plus, it’s a gift that makes a big impact.
This craft is really all about assembling. Everything you need is available at your local craft store. First get the rings: I like the ones used for jewelry making. You can use any type of ring, but it needs to close completely and be wide enough to fit around a wineglass stem.
The ones shown in this project are actually ‘earrings’ and are available in different sizes and thicknesses. For this first example, the beads are somewhat heavy so I chose a thicker gauge ring.
Next, choose your embellishments. I chose beads and charms from the jewelry making area. You want to be able to make each wineglass charm distinctive—either by color or design element.
Divide your beads and embellishments into four groups and then assemble using the same basic pattern. In this example I used four different beads for each ring, and used an ocean-themed charm in the middle to make each unique.
Holiday version
For even more holiday appeal, try using colored jingle bells, gift tags, or other mini holiday ornaments.
Remember to find a way to make each charm look unique so they can serve their purpose.
Holiday gift or name tags are another great way to personalize wineglass charms and are perfect for hosting your own event. For these, find some cute holiday gift tags or make your own with scrapbook paper and a hole punch. Then customize with the names of all your adult guests.
Another great way to customize this project is to write something special about each guest on the back of their wineglass charm.
Wineglass charms make it easy for guests to tell which glasses are theirs. It’s a great gift for most any occasion. And it’s a gift you can scale—for a larger gift give eight charms or enclose the charms with a gift of new wineglasses. For a wedding, try making them with a letter showing the new couple’s last name (and change the colors of each charm for individuality). Or for a special parent or grandparent, create some with mini photo frames featuring pictures of each family member. Enjoy!
