Suddenly, sunny colors are everywhere. Lemon, lime, orange, papaya and other hot hues are popping up all over this spring. They’re bright, yes; but they’re surprisingly versatile when paired with neutrals, especially gray and tan. If you’re like me and don’t usually wear these warm hues, try them cut with flattering cool tones of raspberry, lilac, pink or blue. If your décor and furniture favor cool hues, update the look with just a few hot accents. It’s said that if you like orange, you’re super-sociable and outgoing; and yellow is the color of intelligence – or perhaps enlightenment. While not big in our Puritan past, these hot hues are basic in other cultures, and they’re making their way here with ease. However you use them, in your wardrobe or in your home, a shot of yellow or orange is like opening the shades on a sunny spring day. Instant mood lift!
The starring hue on the Sam Moore upholstered sectional above is trimmed in papaya, coral, mango – or whatever you call this inviting, come-hither color. I especially love the contrast piping on the upholstered sectional; so frisky! These coral hues will make your gray, beige and brown play-it-safe furniture pieces look fresh again. All these fabrics are available in dining chairs, too.
The combination of orange with a geometric graphic is tres chic on this club chair from Sam Moore.
This cute and comfortable look from Adrianne Vittadini combines three trends in one: Yellow, laser-cut design, and pointed-toe flats.
When you’re out on the go, with or without kids in tow, hand sanitizer is a must. I find this pocket-sized, sparkling scent is a wake-up call any time of day; and research says that orange really is the smell that energizes.
You’ll usually see a vibrant color on accent pillows and a more subdued one on a big piece like a sofa, but not always. Textured fabric makes this orange cover on the Myla sofa serene, not sharp. The look is further softened with accent pillows blending pink and neutral tints.
Small cross-body bags are high style, as much for their cuteness as for their hands-free convenience. Macy’s Furla bonbon bag adds a shot of fearless color to any outfit. And you’ll never forget your purse when it looks like this one.
One of the quickest ways to add zest to a sofa or sectional, like this Eaton sectional from Sam Moore Furniture, is with delightful orange accent pillows. Pairing them with neutrals like this menswear gray cover creates a look everyone can love.
Color blocking is still on trend, and these Mercanti Fiorentini flats at DSW make it easy being green. A hot pink moto jacket (or cardigan) would be the perfect complement.
Citron (yellow-green), combined with blue and white updates the classic wing chair with a young feeling, as shown on this Micah wing chair from Sam Moore Furniture.
The “Energy” outdoor pillow at One King’s Lane delivers good vibrations indoors or out. If you’re a little worried about using light colors in a house filled with kids and pets, outdoor pillows are a sensible solution, and they have a softer “hand” than ever.
