Fashion Four-ward Living Room Accent Furniture

Ah . . . accents!  How do I love them?  Let me share the many ways!  While the form of a room is most certainly sculpted by the major furniture selections, such as sofas and larger case pieces, for this interior designer, the little accents chisel in the finishing details and bring the artistry of the room to light.  They also allow a bit of instant gratification for adorning a dull corner or an empty spot.  A discerning eye can help to place them in order to prevent the error of too much eye candy or clutter.  You may also find certain pieces will offer an extra welcome function.  A little storage here or a little room divider there can go a long way!

Demilune From Pearson Furniture

1.  Demilunes – I do love a good demilune!  They flank a bed beautifully as nightstands or they happily greet you in an entry.  Because there are no protruding corners, they are family friend, too!

Nest of Tables From Hooker Furniture

2.  Nesting Tables – How often do you wish you could find room for one more table?  Nesting tables provide a favorite solution of mine.  There are so many different shapes and finishes to complement any kind of style preference.  Triangle shapes let you easily angle seating, as in the example of Hooker Furniture’s triangle-shaped nest of three tables.

Mirrored Chest from Hooker Furniture

3.  Chests – Extra storage always seems to be a number one request from my clients.  It doesn’t matter if they are in a new home with lots of built-ins or closets; it helps them to organize the daily chaos of activities.  Places to put phones, files, batteries, you name it!  Franki Durbin, a fabulous designer and blogger friend, from “Life in a Venti Cup” , shared her favorite piece from Hooker Furniture.  She loved the glamour of the mirrored chest with the crystal knobs and was surprised by the details for the very reasonable price.  You should also check out her blog for Pearson Furniture !

Bench from Hickory Chair

4.  A Bench – At the foot of a bed, at the back entry or mud room, in a breakfast bay . . . the possibilities abound when it comes to using a bench!  This can often be the personality piece for your room.  I adore the Gothick Bench from Hickory Chair and so appreciate the ability to customize the finish.  Paint it black for drama, red for an Asian infusion, or ivory for a soft glow.

I’ve got more ideas up my sleeves for future accent furniture posts!  Meanwhile, I’d love to hear how you would incorporate these pieces into your spaces.  What are some of your “go-to’s” for that extra pop? Let me know with your comments.
