Visions of Sugarplums—and Family Togetherness

For me, the holidays are all about warmth and family. It doesn’t matter where I find myself during the rest of the year, I always venture home for Christmas. There’s nothing quite like the boisterous laughter you’ll find at one of our large family gatherings. And there are so many opportunities for families to come together than during the holidays.

Trimming the Christmas tree is without a doubt one of my favorite parts of the holidays. Each year I change my holiday décor ever so slightly (a great excuse to find more beautiful things to add to my collection), and trim my tree with ribbons, sparkling trinkets, and a few holiday heirlooms. This year’s theme… Visions of Sugarplums.

Rich colors, sugared fruit and, of course, as many lights as I can fit on the tree … it all makes me want to curl up with the best hot chocolate in the world and bask in the glow (if you haven’t tried it, you absolutely must. You’ll never, ever think of hot chocolate the same way again).

No holiday gathering is ever complete without refreshments. Whether you’re serving hors d’oeuvres or a full meal, you need a place for your guests to gather in the dining room or kitchen. My dream dining room is centered around this rustic farm dining table from Hooker Furniture’s Sanctuary Collection.

This gorgeous dining table holds endless possibilities for holiday parties – from tablescape ideas to large meals full of holiday treats.

There’s no better time of year to reconnect with family and friends. There’s something really wonderful about finding holiday greetings in your mailbox. But there’s one giant problem … I am the worst with sending holiday cards. That was, until I discovered Paperless Post last year. These are not the cheesy holiday e-cards you’re used to seeing. They’re beautifully crafted greetings from your favorite designers, like this adorable card from Kate Spade…

…or this Project (Red) card whose sales benefit the World AIDS Fund.

Each card comes complete with a lined envelope, beautiful animation (as if you’re taking the card out of the envelope) and your own holiday greeting. While they’re not free, they only cost a few pennies to send. Send them to all of your friends in your holiday address book and not only are you spreading Christmas cheer, but you’re also doing it in an eco-friendly way (no paper, no waste!).

Wherever you find yourself this holiday season, I hope that you find yourself in the midst of warmth and family. Sending you Season’s Greetings from my home to yours!
