If you’re a fan of Pinterest, you’re no stranger to finding and sharing great design ideas online. One of the internet’s fastest-growing social media sites, Pinterest allows users to organize and share photos by ‘pinning’ them to a board.
The site allows people with similar tastes to share ideas, while giving interior and furniture designers insight into which trends and styles people like. So it was just a matter of time until the question was asked… Could the collective ideas of everyone – as seen on the pinboards of Pinterest – inspire a new furniture collection?
Yes, they could… and they did, says Cindy Hall, director of merchandising at Hooker Furniture. The company’s latest collection, Chic Coterie is the first major furniture collection to be inspired by Pinterest. The collection is hitting retail stores as we speak, and is also expected to hit home with female shoppers… in large part because their ideas inspired it!
Hall and her design team spent hours browsing pinboards of home furnishings, color and décor. The result was the first Pinterest-inspired furniture collection, with forty pieces of chic dining room furniture, chic home office furniture, home entertainment furniture and accent furniture and living room tables that combine fashion, function and feminine appeal. “The look intends to capture the elegant but casual lifestyle that women shoppers are craving,” says Hall, adding that even the collection’s name reveals the inspiration. ‘Chic’ means stylish, while ‘coterie’ means a group of people with a common interest.
Layered with white hang-up over character-rich elm veneers, Chic Coterie has a warm, well-used and livable feel. Airy vintage white, posh brown and two-tone finishes lend a vintage vibe, while antique seeded glass, urn shapes, arched doors, aprons and trestle table bases with pierced fretwork from the Baroque period mix with familiar French country shapes. The result is romantic, but current.
A variety of signature pieces add to the unique look.
The decorative lateral file cabinet with dual file drawers and a top storage drawer blends form and function, with enough style to be a room’s focal point.
While the decorative lateral file can serve as a beautiful home office file cabinet, it also makes a great hall table, kitchen or breakfast room piece or functional accent piece in your family room.
The Chic Coterie home organizer can be used in a home office, kitchen, hall or family room.
The home organizer lives up to its name for a busy household. It features locking file drawers with removable dividers, a drop-down drawer front for keyboard use, a pop-up charging station with 2 plug-ins and 2 USB outlets… and felt-lined trays for valuables!
Another dual function piece is the expandable sofa table. This versatile piece can sit behind a sofa in a compact space, but the table top folds out so you can use it as a desk while watching TV with the family, or so you can use it as extra dining when guests join you for dinner. A perfect addition to your living room furnishings.
Look for great dining pieces, too. The two-toned 60” round pedestal dining table seats up to six; the double pedestal table (with two 18 inch leaves) seats up to ten. Both come with a choice of upholstered, Windsor and ladder-back chairs for this dining room set.
Dining storage pieces add more charm. My favorite is the Chic Coterie server with a combination of storage drawers, adjustable shelves behind seeded glass doors, and five pull-out wine racks that store up to fifteen bottles.
Another favorite is the curio-style display cabinet, featuring two arched wood-framed doors with seeded glass; adjustable wood-framed glass shelves with plate grooves and accent lighting.
Inspired by images people like you are sharing online, Hooker Furniture approached the collection – and each piece in it – as unique, decorative, feminine and functional. “We believe that women want a home that’s comfortable and peaceful, yet stylish and hip,” says Hall.
