It’s always fun to attend Furniture Market. You get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into designers’ minds as they debut the hottest colors and newest styles in home furnishings—not to mention the adventure of trying to dress for the ever-changing North Carolina weather in April.
The spring market happening this week in High Point, North Carolina delivers plenty of inspiration, my favorite being a casually elegant waterside cottage collection called Sunset Point. Here’s a look at some snapshots of the group taken in the Hooker Furniture showroom this week—the exact presentation furniture retailers from around the world saw when they shopped for products they’ll carry in stores later this year.
While I love everything about this collection, the finishes are truly amazing. The 35 different pieces are available in three time-worn designer finishes (the blue being my favorite):
- Hatteras White: a light wire-brushed alabaster finish with natural-colored undertone
- St. Thomas Blue: a pale robin’s egg-blue chipped finish with a soft rub-through
- Sea Oat: a subtle light brown finish with a natural wood look and a slight whitewash
One of my favorite pieces in this collection is the side table. It has just the right scale and would add interest to any room. Its inspiration comes from a bobbin or spindle and it’s shown here wearing the delightful St. Thomas Blue finish.
Sunset Point has me so inspired, I want to move closer to the water. The relaxed feel of this group delivers the aesthetic of coastal or lakeside living, but would feel at-home anywhere. The lattice-patterned panel bed alone could easily inspire an entire master bedroom makeover for me.
The Sunset Point panel bed has a raised lattice pattern on both headboard and footboard that is both whimsical and elegant. I love the way they’ve mixed in a side table in the blue finish as well.
This eclectic cottage collection features sand dollar-shaped hardware in a soft finish that perfectly complements its organic cathedral white oak veneers.
Two chair styles offer lots of dining options, and a open-shelf cabinet featuring spindle detailing could work in just about any room of the house.
The x-back dining chair in the St. Thomas blue finish is extraordinary in both look and feel. It’s perfectly paired with the rectangular dining table finished in Hatteras White and Sea Oat.
Another great thing about this collection is that it’s designed for living. The pieces are sturdy, comfortable, and unfussy. The dining chairs are comfortable with or without the cushion, and the blue adds a touch of fun to everyday living. Now all that’s needed is family, friends and some fresh seafood!
