You might call them the “Oscars of Furniture.”
They are the Pinnacle Design Awards, awarded annually by the American Society of Furniture Designers to recognize achievement in furniture design and to promote design excellence and originality. Awards are given in 15 categories ranging from casual dining to bedroom to leather upholstery to juvenile furniture to major collections.
We think the Pinnacle Awards, established in 1995, are a terrific idea to recognize the often unsung heroes behind the scenes who design and birth furniture. These designers are vital to making furniture an exciting fashion industry. They create cherished and beautiful pieces that transform our houses into homes.
This year, Hooker Furniture is very excited to have four furniture items or collections as finalists for the 2011 Pinnacle Awards! Drum roll please, our finalists are:
- Rafferty Console, nominated in the occasional table category. This piece was designed and developed by our own Cindy Hall and Erica Wingo, who also designed another Pinnacle finalist, the
- Classique Scroll Chest. Cindy and Erica are young women on our merchandising team who have collaborated successfully on a number of original pieces and collections. For more on the story of their prolific furniture creation collaborations, read our recent blog How a Furniture Collection was Created.
- Felton This bedroom, dining room, home entertainment, living room and home office collection, designed by Matt Hurley for Hooker Furniture, is probably the most contemporary group we have offered in the last 10-plus years. In a soft and warm contemporary style, the collection features a striking juxtaposition of design elements, pairing cosmopolitan contemporary styling with a warm finish on walnut veneers.
- Ava, a youth bedroom collection offered in our Opus Designs by Hooker Furniture line. This lovely soft white finished collection in European traditional styling also was designed by Matthew Hurley for Hooker Furniture.
