Give us your back-to-school furniture, food & organization ideas!

Have you ever noticed how summer seems to saunter slowly up until the July 4 holiday, but  how the days seem to fly by once that Independence Day milestone is reached? Before you know it, the young ones among us will be heading back to school or college and we will be trying to settle into our old routine again.

While this transition from the relaxing days of summer to the geared up fall can be bittersweet, new furniture, organizational items, fashion and even food and recipe ideas can make the back-to-school routine much more exciting. To that end, we want your help in spreading back-to-school ideas through our social media community!

Through the end of August, Hooker Furniture is inviting you to “Pin or Post to Win” a functional swivel chest from our Abby youth collection.

The Abby swivel chest

Young people from 3 to 23 will appreciate this furniture dynamo. The Abby chest has five drawers on one side and swivels to reveal a fabric memo board exterior. Behind the door is another memo board as well as 3 adjustable shelves, a felt jewelry tray and nine pegs for holding belts, scarves, jewelry and accessories. This piece gets you so organized and puts so many vital items within easy reach that you might even get to sleep in five extra minutes!

You can participate in the back-to-school contest by re-pinning any of the back-to-school ideas on Hooker’s Pinterest back-to-school board or posting your back to school ideas on the Hooker Furniture Facebook page. You enter the sweepstakes by visiting the back-to-school contest landing page.

This campaign is right in line with our mission to offer ideas, resources and inspiration to enhance your lives and homes through our online community. Check out just a few of these ideas on our Back-to-school Pinterest board.

Look how much you can fit into a desk drawer with this idea for drawer organization:

Check out this simple and fun do-it-yourself bookshelf made from crates. You could paint this any color under the sun:

Or how about this lunchbox cupboard that allows the kids to pack their own lunches. They pick one from each drawer—fruit, granola bars, snacks, desserts and drinks. The parent chooses what goes in the drawer, but the child learns to make their own choice of healthy foods to pack.

The right desk can really make homework more productive and enjoyable. This Kendall desk from our Opus Designs youth collection makes learning comfortable and computer hook ups easy.

B-T-SCHOOL IDEA: A “dedicated” hall-type table or cubby designed to receive backpacks and after-school “stuff.” Kids barely make it inside their home doorways before unloading (and heading to the refrigerator!). Take it from this grandmother, I know!!!

An organized trunk allows room for an extra jacket to be kept in the car. Most park in the garage and are unaware of the outside temps, so that extra jacket can keep your little warm on those brisk days. With our weather, it changes daily.

Reorganize Clothes Closets, I have my kids to try on all their clothes and we donate all the clothes and shoes that they cannot fit.

Take a free window sash that some one is giving away. Sand it down and refinish any way that you would like. Paint the window panels with chaulkboard paint. Hang in a hallway, office, mudroom or child’s bedroom and you have a fun way for the kids to express themselves and a neat way to organize your thoughts.
